2020 Hallows' Eve Online Mathematics Tournament
The Hallows' Eve Online Mathematics Tournament (HEOMT) is an innovative math competition that will feature an exciting and intense team elimination bracket. Designed by a committee of nearly fifteen AIME and USA(J)MO qualifiers, HEOMT seeks to provide motivated mathematics students with a chance to compete during these unprecedented times.
The competition is designed for high school students, but middle schoolers are also welcome to compete. Participants may join a team of up to three students or compete individually. The competition will include an individual round, as well as team qualification and elimination rounds. The team qualification and individual rounds will take place on October 31 and the elimination round will take place on November 1st. To prevent cheating, all participants must attend a Zoom meeting during the competition.
The individual round will consist of 15 problems to be solved in 60 minutes, while the team qualification round will consist of 10 problems to be solved in 30 minutes. Both the individual and team round scores will be used to determine qualification for the elimination portion of the competition. For each level in the elimination bracket, teams will be given 5 problems to be solved in 20-30 minutes. The difficulty of the problems will range from mid-AMC 10 to late-AIME in difficulty, with elimination round problems being concentrated in the higher end of the spectrum.
